The Biggest Mystery of True Detective: How Does Detective Hart Get These Women


HBO's True Detective is a show full of plot twists and turns, but there's one mystery that may never be answered.

How does Woody Harrelson's  Detective Martin Hart character keep pulling women way out of his league?  It's mind boggling.

Yes, I know I'm playing into  True Detective's problem of treating women like sex objects,  but this is in the interest of pop culture study.

I'll avoid major plot spoilers so people won't kill me.

Some Pop Culture Thoughts on the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics


The Sochi Olympics have not been the most exciting or easiest Olympics to watch.  The time difference makes it difficult to see events live, and Americans have underperformed in events.

Since the Olympics are at the half way point,  here's some pop culture thoughts on Sochi so far:

1.  I Really Want One of Those Nike Silver Team USA Jackets

Sure the USA jackets make the athletes look like the silver Michelin man/an astronaut and are impractical for everyday wear; but there's something oddly cool about them.  Although, not $500 cool, which is how much they cost.

Three Product Commercials Only Seen Late at Night



Late-night television commercials are strange things.  At a certain point, it's as though advertisers are done trying to gain your respect and it's take it or leave it.

Of course, there are the usual sketchy sex hot line commercials.  By the way, how are these things still in business?

Maybe there's an underground group of Luddite perverts that were too busy to use technology for their pursuits.
